Former residence of Gertrude Jekyll. The design is an interpretation of how she might have designed a garden now. It’s based on creating a beautiful picture with naturalistic planting in harmonious colours, linking the woodland on one side with a wild flower meadow on the other side. In the centre a bespoke arch is overflowing with white climbing roses. Topiary shrubs surround the arch, like cake slices. They are cut out towards the centre like a bowl (echoing the shape of the arch). Dome shaped evergreen shrubs surround the arch, emulating stones in the landscape, whilst breaking up the formality of the arch. On the south side of property, a hedge is cut out to frame a sculpture and to create a focal point. Two Catalpa trees frame the view further. (click on an image to enlarge it)
