My client had purchased a bit of extra land at the back of their property and wanted a contemporary design but were struggling to see what they could do with it. Previously the garden was mainly laid to lawn. I created a design with clean lines, where I introduced some interesting perspectives of paths with a mixture of formal planting and loose perennials to create a visually pleasing structural composition whilst at the same time tying in the wilder woodland at the back. The transition between formality and the wilder area was helped by creating a seating area at the entrance of the woodland, set in informal gravel with stepping stones in the same material as the path. I ensured good use of the garden by providing three different seating areas to be utilised at different times of the day always enabling a space in the sun or shade depending on needs at any time. These areas also provided a unique setting amongst the trees, with great view points and a feeling of being enclosed by nature.
